Condo Dryer Vents: Who's Responsible, and How to Get Them Cleaned
In a condo, your dryer vent often runs through shared parts of the building. That makes it easy to assume someone else is looking after it. These are the questions to ask.

Who's responsible?
It depends on your building's governing documents. Some HOAs handle shared vent lines, while others leave them to the owner. Your HOA or property manager should be able to tell you, including whether the building has a regular cleaning schedule.
Questions for your HOA
- Where does my dryer vent end: on a wall or the roof?
- Is the line shared or just for my unit?
- When was it last cleaned, and is there a record?
- Are there rules on roof access, contractors or insurance?
- Are there set hours for this kind of work?
Signs not to ignore
Long drying times and a hot laundry closet are the usual signs. Report them even if you think the line is the building's job. We can clean individual condo vents and rooftop terminations, and work with managers on building-wide service.
